The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering has been honored as a ten-year member of the Illinois Council on Food and Agricultural Research (C-FAR). On February 17, 2009, Dr. Mike Tumbleson, professor emeritus in ABE, accepted a certificate of recognition on behalf of the Department from Nels Kasey, chairman of the board of C-FAR.
When C-FAR was established in 1993, its founding mission was to increase state funding of food and agricultural research, and to engage the public sector in program guidance. Today, C-FAR also works to leverage its research dollars to obtain federal and other funds, and recruit and retain key research personnel. They have made “unprecedented advancements” in accountability, and provide a platform for their membership to cultivate a highly practical research portfolio.
In a letter to Dr. K.C. Ting, Department head, C-FAR stated that the Department’s “steadfast commitment to and support of C-FAR has been highly instrumental in our achievements…We deeply appreciate your continued partnership and investment in support of Illinois’ food and agricultural industry.”
