Illinois Competes in 2008 Quarter Scale Tractor Competition

Published Jun 3, 2008

We can once again be proud of the Illini Pullers representing ABE and the University of Illinois with a high quality effort at the 11th Anniversary of the ASABE International ¼ Scale Tractor Student Design competition that took place May 29-June 1, 2008 at the Expo Gardens, Peoria, IL. The A-team and their tractor, "Spirit of the Chief", competed against 25 other schools.  "Legendary Chief" competed in the X-team pulls against 11 other teams. The A-Team did not place in the top five teams overall, but they still made a big impact as did the X-team.

The team placed as follows:

3rd Web site design competition (to check out the Illini Puller's website click here)

2nd Written design report

2nd Oral presentation

1st Overall X-team competition

Other results:

Overall tractor pull winners: 1st Kansas State, 2nd Nichols State, 3rd Kentucky

Overall Competition champions: 1st Kansas State, 2nd University of Laval, 3rd Iowa State, 4th Kentucky, 5th Saskatchewan... 11th University of Illinois

Once again it was a very rewarding and impressive event.  Apart from Illinois, the only other 6-engine tractor was Purdue’s.  All 25 tractors competing had unique designs and configurations.  The camaraderie amongst teams is always impressive and uplifting.
