Department Begins Professional Development Seminar Series
Study abroad programs will be the topic of discussion for the second presentation in the ABE@Illinois Professional Development Seminar Series. The program will be held on Wednesday, October 21st from 5 to 7:00 p.m. in Room 204 of the Agricultural Engineering Sciences Building.
Current ABE and TSM students will discuss their experiences abroad, and faculty members will be available to explain how to plan for and finance a study abroad experience. Everyone is encouraged to come and explore the variety of options within the Colleges of ACES and Engineering. Dinner will be provided after the presentation, which is open to all undergraduate ABE and TSM students.
Anne Marie Boone, Student Academic Program Coordinator for the Department, and one of the coordinators of the series, believes students can benefit greatly from the information presented at these seminars.
“This is information that will be incredibly helpful to all our ABE and TSM students, especially our freshmen and sophomores,” said Boone. “It’s never too early to start thinking about and planning for a successful career.”
The series began in September, and approximately 20 students attended the presentation by Jenny Neef, ACES Career Services Coordinator.
“Jenny spoke on how to prepare for a career fair at our first meeting,” said Boone. “She presented on proper attire for a career fair, how to sell yourself to an industry rep in less than five minutes (commonly known as your ‘elevator speech’), and what to include on your résumé. She also walked students through using the career services website that’s affiliated with the College.”
Future seminars will be held the third Wednesday of each month, and the topic for November’s presentation will be “Internship Experiences.”
